The Creative Side of Salvage
The bulk of the inventory available at Southern Accents is architectural in nature. Visit our showroom and warehouses and you will find a huge variety of antique mantels, doors, chandeliers, clawfoot tubs, ironwork, newel posts, and salvaged wood. However, each time we embark on a new salvage mission, most often we encounter a variety of odd items that we can't bear to leave behind. We don't always know what we are going to do with these items at the time, but being the creatives that we are, we always know that we will find a use for them.
One of our recent salvage projects saw us returning with boxes and boxes of old vinyl record albums and 8 track tapes! We all found ourselves drawn to these items. We laughed looking at some of the album covers... the clothing, the hair, the music, all brought back memories for those of us "young" enough to remember. As the time to prepare for Southern Makers drew closer, we came up with an idea to use these items to create some fun backdrops. We don't yet know exactly where these will be used this weekend, but we are sure that they are going to make a lot of people smile!
Building the stage for Southern Makers is but one of the many tasks Southern Accents tackles for this exciting event. Each year our team has worked together to come up with new, creative ideas using salvaged material. Our goal is to exceed in creativity what we did the year before! With this year's stage design, we feel that we have encompassed the heart of Southern Makers! Our team collaborated with local artist Leldon Maxcy and his mad scroll saw skills to create a 12' tall x 8' wide exact scale of Alabama with all the counties represented! We are proud of this work of art that will serve as this year's stage backdrop.
We hope that you have made plans to attend Southern Makers this weekend! We are loading the truck and will be bringing lots of goodies for our own booth which will be located across from the stage. Please be sure to stop by and follow our social media accounts for updates throughout the weekend!
