Going, Going, Gone... GREEN!

Going Green is a popular buzz word used to define environmental responsibility and sustainability of the planet. Southern Accents has been 'green' since way back in 1969 when Dr. Gudger first began rescuing unwanted items. Being in the salvage business, we feel a responsibility to educate our customers on the various ways salvage items can be reused and repurposed. Every item that we salvage is one less item in our landfills.

Most of our customers will arrive at our showroom searching for a single architectural antique or salvage item, of which we have plenty. But did you know that we can also walk you through a complete home restoration using green materials? Not only can we work with you on large residential projects, but we have also worked on many commercial projects. Commercial projects allow the owner or developer to typically take a more creative approach to repurposing salvage material in order to create a unique atmosphere for their business.

This past Monday, we found ourselves in Midtown Atlanta at Billy Reid's newest store. We've worked with Billy in the past on several projects, including providing props and backdrops of green materials in 2010 for his spring fashion shoot in NYC. It was a pleasure to work with Billy again. For his latest endeavor in the Westside Provisions District, a former meat packing plant, we provided rough sawn barn wood which was used for the flooring. The barn wood was also installed on the walls and painted white, creating a clean backdrop for Billy's stunning clothing collection. The beautiful counter that can be seen upon entering the store was acquired from an old cotton gin in Georgia. We restored it and then returned it to Georgia to serve as Billy's check out. We also provided Billy with the front doors for his new shop, many of the light fixtures as well as some of the interior accessories. These salvaged items were repurposed or restored and reused, contributing to the sustainability of our planet. If you're in the Atlanta area be sure to pay a visit to Billy Reid.

Other recent green projects include one of downtown Birmingham's newest restaurants, the Brick & Tin. We provided salvaged wood for their rustic tables and counter tops. Locally we have worked with Carlton's pizza and Berkley Bob's coffee house among others.

Whether your project is large or small, residential or commercial, we can provide authentic antique and salvage materials that can be repurposed to create a unique look for your home, office, or business. Ready to 'Go Green'? Give us a call!
